Sir Banestre Tarleton – a French interest

On Monday, October 26th we welcomed to the village Claire de Saint-Léger and her husband Valéry. Claire has been researching Sir Banastre Tarleton as she has written a novel set during the American War of Independence, a period of history with which she has long been fascinated. Claire visited the church to see the monument, and viewed our archive material in the History Room – many thanks to John Williams who could not be there in person but made the archive materials available for Claire to see. Jenny and Colin Beard kindly invited us to Leintwardine House, as Claire particularly hoped to see the house where Sir Banastre spent the latter part of his life. The afternoon was greatly enjoyed by all concerned.

Claire’s novel is entitled “Une Histoire d’Indépendance”; she has promised to let me know when it is published.
