On February 21st LHS members and others were treated to a well-researched and thought-provoking presentation about Allan Leonard Lewis who became the only Herefordshire born man to win the Victoria Cross. They also heard how a group of dedicated individuals led by Lewis’s great-niece Dawn Lewis sought recognition for this WW1 soldier hero finally collecting enough money to commission and erect a statue in his memory in time for the hundredth anniversary of his death on 21st September 2018.
