On this day in 1947.

On 19th March 1947 Police Constable Stamp was photographed on Leintwardine Bridge, inspecting the floods which the Friends of the Corve and Teme website now suggest was “probably one of the severest of Ludlow floods of the past century“.

To the left of the picture behind PC Stamp can be seen The Barracks on Paytoe Lane. The Barracks was built in the 1830s as a Poor House, to accommodate those who needed ‘indoor’ poor relief. In those days the costs were met by the Parish.
